Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2008 winners announced

Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2008

Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) has announced winner of its annual Content Awards contest. As we’ve already covered the contest in the past, I won’t go much into details about the procedure the winners are picked. Rather I’ll jump on naming names right away.

And the winners are…

  • Being Productive – Upvise, by Unyverse Pte Ltd, Singapore
  • In-Car Applications – GPSed, by Shape Services GmbH
  • It’s all about the Entertainment – Bubble Boom Challenge, by ZED
  • Lifestyle Choice – Mobiles’ Republic Media Explorer, by Mobiles’ Republic
  • Themes & Graphics – Flash Lite Wallpapers, by ustwo
  • Special Recognition – EcoMate, by Instituto Atlantico & UFC
  • Xperia Panels – Spb Traveller, by Spb Software

Also worth mentioned is the application called EcoMate, which shares tips and ideas about how to live a more environmentally friendly life in an entertaining format.

Winners will be brought to Sony Ericsson’s development site in Lund, Sweden, for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes two-day visit where they will meet members of Sony Ericsson’s senior management and discuss business with Sony Ericsson’s content decision makers.

More information about the Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2008 is available from a dedicated website.

Gigabyte’s GSmart S1200 Windows Mobile smartphone coming to Mobile World Congress

Gigabyte GSmart S1200 Windows Mobile smartphone

Gigabyte is preparing to roll-out new phones at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We’ve heard the company will unveil the 0.43-inches thick (or that’s thin) GSmart S1200, the all-touchscreen device that runs Windows Mobile 6.1 with Gigabyte’s own UI called Smart Zone on top of it. We don’t have much details at this stage, except that it boasts Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s 7200A 528MHz CPU under the hood. Guess the rest of the specs include such things as WiFi, GPS, 3G, some camera, and who knows what else.

In addition, there’s a rumor Gigabyte will also show its new business offering. Even less is known about this one, aside from the fact that it will be “something very different to what they have before.” Intriguing…

Verizon Trying to Clear Out the BlackBerry 8330

verizon-8330With Verizon (NYSE: VZ) running their ‘BOGO’ sale at the moment, they’re no doubt trying their best to clear out old stock… Especially the Verizon BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Curve 8330. For some time yesterday, it looked as though they were ultra-successful. On the Verizon website, the 8330 was (in both silver and pink) listed as ‘out of stock’. Victory for Verizon! Wait… Maybe not. Some time later the site was updated, and the 8330’s were back in stock. False alarm.

If you’d still like to get your hands on a cheap 8330, the Verizon BOGO sale is running till March 31st. You can buy any Berry that Verizon offers and get another one (equal or lesser value) for free. Each purchased device requires a 2-year contract and a suitable data plan. Last I checked, the 8330’s were selling for $79.99 after a $70 discount.

For more info on the BlackBerry Curve 8330 from Verizon, the BOGO offer and more, hit up Verizon’s website.
